Drink water three sips each time

ater must be drunk in three separate breaths. In other words, the cup/glass should be removed from the mouth after a sip, a breath taken and then drunk again. This method of drinking is very beneficial for quenching the thirst. When water
enters the hot thirsty stomach in intervals, the second sip of water will quench the thirst left by the first, and the third will quench the thirst of the first two. This method will change the temperature of the stomach gradually. Sudden change of temperature inside the stomach is not desirable. When water is drunk in one sip the gases in the stomach will ascend causing flatulence and stomachache.

All we know that when we take breath we take the O2 (Oxygen) from the air and we leave the CO2 (Carbon-di-oxide) in the air. So, if we take water in one sip there will be a chance of breathing and following may be reacted:

The reaction between carbon di oxide and water

CO2 + H2O = H2CO3 (Carbonic Acid)

We know that water is the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen and the formula is H2O.

Carbonic acid reacts slightly and reversibly in water to form a hydronium cation, H3O+, and the bicarbonate ion, HCO3- ; H2CO3 + H2O = HCO3- + H3O+ . This chemical behavior explains why water, which normally has a neutral pH of 7 has an acidic pH of approximately 5.5 when it has been exposed to air. It also explains the burning/stinging sensation in your nose and eyes when you inhale too quickly from a freshly-opened container of soda pop; the gas quickly reacts with the water in your eyes and nose to form a small amount of carbonic acid.

Drinking water in three sips is doubly beneficial for those who live in hot regions; the method will help cool their internal system. An example to understand this concept better when one pours water in a boiling pot, it will not decrease its temperature significantly. Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) himself was endowed with great knowledge. He had a great logical and scientific mind, which enabled him to empirically advice the Umma (followers) on proper prophylaxis and preventation. He even advised on benefits of certain medications and certain natural remedies. Some of these are admittedly dealt in this feature which is advocated for us to practice.

  2. Can you explain the sunnah of eating while sitting specifically? I found that once but couldn't find it again.
